1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S

Sold! Very Original Northern CA Car!

This is truly one of the best unrestored examples of an original 220S Cabriolet U.S. model that we have seen in the last 30 years. The 220S Cabriolet was built from July 1956 to Oct. 1959, with a combined production total of 3,429 (for the Coupe and Cabriolet).

After a thorough examination around the body we are comfortable to say that 85-90% of the paint is original. This car still maintains its well preserved original interior and wood as well. While the leather seats have been affected over all these years (we all know that it's almost impossible for leather to last this long), the carpeting is original and is in excellent condition.

The car was originally purchased for $8,321, and was delivered with a Becker Mexico Radio and the rare Shortwave radio option, as well as a factory passenger headrest (which was hardly ever used). Accompanying the car are the tools and manuals, along with the original purchase order from Mercedes-Benz, and repair orders dating back to the 1970's. The car has spent all of its life in Northern California where it has remained rust and accident-free. The floor boards of this car are simply beautiful and rust-free (even though it has never been undercoated nor touched up).

The trunk floor presents as you would expect, preserving its original rubber mat as well as the original trunk carpet. The first owner purchased it under the European delivery plan. The second owner purchased it in June of 1965, with the car currently having a total of 119,017 original miles. It was awarded the Mercedes Silver Star Preservation Award at Legends of the Autobahn in August of 2015.

The car starts and runs like a new car, which shows the care and maintenance this 58-year-old car has had over all of these years. All of the chrome on the car is original and in pristine condition. It is so hard to find an original car like this one that shows the perfection of all the fitting of the chrome throughout the entire car. Simply a beauty and as most smart collectors know, these cars are original only once.
