1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

Very Original 280SL in Excellent Condition

This is a very nice 280SL that has a very well documented history from the day it left the showroom floor. In August 1969, Mr. Charles T. Davis went to the Mercedes dealer and traded in his 1968 250SL (a one year old car) for this 1969 dark green 280SL. (As you can see from the “Bill of Sale” the dealer gave him a trade-in allowance of $6,029 for his 250SL and he paid the difference in cash). Mr. Davis drove it away that day and kept it until 2013, as it shows in the last registration contained in the thick maintenance file.

The car was repainted once in its original dark green (code 268), but the rest of the car is totally original, including its original soft top canvas from 1969 (which is a little tight from age, but still quite nice, matching up to the caliber of the rest of the car).

The condition of the car is as you would expect it to be from an owner who was quite meticulous (and as the photos reveal). Underneath the car you will find super nice rust-free floors, and the trunk floor shows that it is also untouched and original, never having the need to be repainted.

The car did sustain some type of damage to the right front fender or perhaps nose panel. Upon close inspection (and in the photo), it is very hard to see any type of repair, so it was apparently minimal and repaired appropriately.

It runs exactly as it should and needs no repairs of any kind. A Dr. Lutfy has had this car as part of his collection since acquiring it in 2013, and did whatever it needed to keep it perfect mechanically (including new motor mounts, transmission mount, drive line disc, etc.).
